At the eastern gate, Oujda cultivates a crossroads identity, between a lively medina, Gnaoua and Raï music. A springboard to the oases and high plateaus.

A little history

Founded in 994 by Ziri ibn Atiyya, Oujda has always been a border city, fought over by empires and neighbour to Algeria. Its Bab Sidi Abdelwahab gate and medina keep the memory of this caravan crossroads; raï and gnaoua set its pulse.

Getting there

  • Airport Oujda-Angads Airport (OUD) 12 km out, flights to Europe
  • Train Oujda ONCF station eastern terminus, to Fès and Casablanca
  • Bus & coach Coach station & CTM links to Saïdia, Nador, Figuig

The sea

The Mediterranean is ~55 km away: Saïdia, the “blue pearl” with its 14 km beach, is the region's resort.

Good to know

Hot in summer, cool in winter; spring and autumn ideal.
