About this place
The old town of Asilah stands out with its whitewashed façades painted in blue and white, encircled by walls that plunge into the ocean. Founded by the Phoenicians then fortified by the Portuguese, it retains the imprint of its past as a maritime stronghold. Every summer since 1978, the cultural moussem transforms its alleyways into an open-air gallery, where artists from around the world paint directly on the walls.
Visitors stroll through to wander among artisan shops, admire carved doors and flowering patios, then walk along the ramparts to feel the sea spray. Art galleries punctuate the route, whilst Bab Homar square and its cannons facing the sea offer a contemplative pause. Accessible to all, this compact medina is easily explored on foot and appeals to history enthusiasts and contemporary art lovers alike.

The old medina of Asilah is a real coup de cœur. Its impeccably clean white alleyways, its colourful doors, its magnificent fresques and its peaceful atmosphere make it a unique place. Walking along the ramparts with the view over the ocean is a real pleasure.

The town is rather pretty, if you're near Tanger, you must go, however I was expecting much better as it remains quite small with very few people

Tellement joli, is it because we were there at the end of February that it gave off such serenity, ..we really loved this town

Very pretty medina, calm and very clean. Winding streets, white and blue, overlooking the sea from the top of its ramparts, enter through one of its 3 gates and wander at the rhythm of the different goods on display. Absolutely must do

A faire absolument
A very pleasant place for a few days' rest. A bit of beach, a few walks around the magnificent medina, the very lively Thursday souk... enough to fill the days nicely. A few regrets: no proper promenade in Asilah, you get the impression that the sea is far away because of the barriers that separate.
