The mausoleum of Moulay Ismaïl houses the remains of the sultan who made Meknès his imperial capital in the 17th century. It is an exceptional sacred place, accessible to visitors of any faith, a rare privilege in Morocco. The rooms follow one another in a symphony of polychrome zelliges, chiselled stucco and carved cedar wood.
Light filters through the moucharabiehs, enveloping the marble courtyards in a peaceful and solemn atmosphere. Fountains murmur between the columns, inviting contemplation.
The visit allows one to admire Alaouite dynastic art in all its splendour: painted ceilings, precious carpets, clocks gifted by Louis XIV. One walks barefoot through the antechambers before glimpsing the tomb from the threshold of the burial chamber. A guardian ensures respect for the premises and willingly shares a few explanations. This sanctuary suits all visitors curious about sacred architecture and Moroccan history, with the respect and dignity required by a living place of prayer.

Un site magnifique qui se visite gratuitement. Un ensemble vraiment très bien conservé et où on aime prendre son temps pour admirer chaque détail. Essayer d'y aller tôt le matin ou pendant midi pour éviter les groupes de touristes bruyants et qui prennent la pause pour être photographiés sans se soucier des autres…
Le Mausolée Moulay Ismaïl est un lieu chargé d’histoire et d’une beauté remarquable. L’architecture y est somptueuse, avec ses mosaïques finement travaillées, ses portes sculptées et son ambiance paisible qui invite au recueillement.
Monument magnifique, rempli d'histoire, très intéressant. Architecture incroyable, je recommande la visite de ce lieu saint. Entrée gratuite, vous pouvez laisser un pourboire au gardien qui vous commente l'histoire du mausolée avec passion.

Beau mausolée le travail des artisans est exceptionnel entrée gratuite pas assez d'éclairage dans les salles.
