Souk El Had

Places to visit · Agadir

About this place

Enclosed within a circular wall, Agadir's Souk El Had spans several hectares and forms a true commercial labyrinth where the Moroccan soul resonates. Every Sunday and throughout the week, this market teems with life: stalls overflow with sun-drenched fruits, freshly picked vegetables, Atlantic fish, fragrant spices and brightly coloured textiles. The atmosphere is authentic, far from standardised tourist circuits, with its merchants calling out to passers-by and its alleyways where one gets lost with pleasure.

People come here to buy leather babouches, Berber rugs, pottery, argan oil, thyme honey or Drâa dates, but also to simply wander and soak up Agadir's popular atmosphere. Curious travellers discover the daily life of the Gadiri, whilst craft enthusiasts can negotiate directly with artisans. Allow at least two hours to walk around it and come early in the morning to enjoy the cool air and the best selection.
