Mohammed V Mausoleum
Places to visit · Casablanca
About this place
Facing the Hassan Tower, this mausoleum built between 1961 and 1971 impresses with the refinement of its Moroccan craftsmanship. Carrara white marble, zellige with geometric patterns, carved cedar wood and green glazed tile roofing compose a sumptuous setting. The golden dome dominates the esplanade whilst inside, under the motionless guard of horsemen in traditional dress, Mohammed V's tomb radiates with onyx marble.
The interior balcony, which allows one to admire the burial chamber from the upper gallery, is freely accessible. The atmosphere invites contemplation and respect for the premises. Ideal for those interested in Morocco's contemporary history and the excellence of its artisan expertise. The visit naturally combines with the neighbouring Hassan Tower and offers a major cultural break during a stay in Rabat.
