Jemaa el-Fna Square

About this place
This thousand-year-old square embodies the soul of Marrakech in its most authentic and vibrant form. From morning onwards, it comes alive with an endless ballet: orange sellers, water carriers in traditional costume, snake charmers. As the sun sets, it transforms into a vast open-air theatre where storytellers, Gnaoua musicians, acrobats and fortune tellers weave a hypnotic atmosphere. Smoke from the grilled food stalls perfumes the air whilst the golden light sets the facades ablaze.
People come here to immerse themselves in popular Morocco, nibble spicy snails, drink freshly squeezed orange juice or simply observe this fascinating spectacle from a terrace overlooking the square. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jemaa el-Fna remains essential for every visitor to Marrakech, whether photography enthusiast, curious about traditions or simply seeking authentic experiences. Come evening, joining the Marrakchis who gather here offers a unique moment of communion.

Still as much atmosphere, the sellers are ok not too annoying you just have to not look at them 😅 We attended the Morocco France match of the world cup, it was really well supervised, police firefighters, ambulance, security and everything went well. The people are very respectful.

Absolutely must see. Vibrant heart of Marrakech. Very lively and colourful. Snake charmers, gnawa drums, storytellers, henna tattoo artists, stalls of fruit, spices, pottery...and street vendors. A bit chaotic but unforgettable.

Very nice place but be careful! We get hassled constantly. One of the dancers came to ask us for money, my daughter had taken a photo. We didn't have change, so he kept the 50 dirhams. It's very unpleasant because you feel like a cash cow.
