Villa Harris

Places to visit · Tanger

About this place

Built in 1924 for American journalist Walter Harris, this elegant Art Deco villa overlooks the Strait of Gibraltar. Its clean lines, luminous volumes and Mediterranean garden tell the story of the golden age of international Tangier, when artists, diplomats and adventurers would cross paths in salons facing the sea. The atmosphere remains peaceful, almost intimate, an invitation to discover a little-known page of Tangier's history.

Now transformed into a contemporary art museum, Villa Harris hosts temporary exhibitions and collections by Moroccan and international artists. Visitors wander between rooms with ornate ceilings, linger on the terrace where the view embraces the ocean, and breathe in the shaded gardens. The place appeals to architecture enthusiasts, cultural history buffs and all those seeking an aesthetic refuge in Tangier away from the urban bustle.

It is free and rather large. There are 2 areas for sports enthusiasts and 2 play areas for children. There is a paid car park located next to the largest play area next to the cappuccino restaurant. There are benches to sit down a bit everywhere Lots of people come to picnic and do sport.

I loved this visit! To do if you're passing through Tanger. The museum is done very quickly (in 4 stages) and allows you to have a quick overview of the evolution of Moroccan art. It's especially worth it for the villa itself. 2€ entrance. Surrounded by pretty gardens, free. Only downside: it's very hot!!
