Kasbah des Oudayas – Rabat

Places to visit · Rabat

About this place

Kasbah des Oudaya(s) Around fifteen minutes (on foot) from the centre of Rabat, on the left bank of the Bouregreg estuary stands a veritable fortress dating from the 12th century: the Qasbah des Oudayas. With its monumental Almohad gate, the kasbah remains a striking site offering visitors unparalleled beauty. It encompasses an Andalusian-style garden, a museum, riads and ancient mosques.

. The Andalusian influence is omnipresent: the walls uniformly covered in whitewash, the dominant blue colour, the well-maintained and paved alleyways, the massive doors in multiple colours, the wrought iron… The Qasbah des Oudayas, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, has become for many artists from Morocco and around the world, a haven of peace and inspiration. Visitors are captivated as much by the beauty of the site as by its soothing tranquillity.

The kasbah's great attraction is undoubtedly its famous Café Maure, which can be reached by following the winding alleyways. An unmissable spot where visitors can sip a delicious mint tea whilst enjoying delightful almond cakes. Offering, at the mouth of the Bouregreg, a stunning view over the Atlantic Ocean and the city of Salé, the square remains a recommended place to relax and watch the coming and going of boats between the two banks.

Magnificent, and very clean compared to other tourist sites in Morocco. The locals at the entrance follow families or groups to do a personalised visit. Our guide didn't ask us for anything but we decided all the same to give a contribution.nice shops to do as well

Magnificent site! The tourists are spotted by the guides, they pass you and start giving you info and you're taken along unbeknownst to your full consent 😂, you'll have to contribute of course 😇. Place charged with history that's worth the guided visit and the viewpoint!

The Kasbah of the Udayas (قصبة الوداية) is the oldest quarter of Rabat and one of the most important historical sites in Morocco. Situated on a cliff that overlooks the mouth of the Bouregreg river, facing the city of Salé and the Atlantic Ocean, this citadel tells nearly nine centuries of history.

An unmissable place in Rabat, charged with history. Very touristy and therefore often invaded by the crowd. Favour the morning to enjoy this marvellous place.
