Dar El Bacha Museum

Places to visit · Marrakech

About this place

Former palace of Pasha Thami El Glaoui built in the early 20th century, Dar El Bacha displays all the splendour of traditional Moroccan architecture. Dazzling zelliges, carved woodwork and chiselled stucco adorn interior courtyards and state rooms. This architectural jewel of the Dar El Bacha quarter, a few steps from Jemaa el-Fna square, now houses the Confluences museum dedicated to Moroccan arts of living.

The permanent collections present furniture, jewellery, ceramics and textiles that bear witness to the refinement of local craftsmanship. The themed rooms trace the history of arts and crafts and urban traditions of Marrakech. The café-tea room set in one of the patios offers a welcome break after the visit. Ideal for those wishing to understand Moroccan palatial elegance in an authentic setting, away from the hustle and bustle of the souks.

A magnificent experience to visit this museum without many tourists in June around 4pm. The place is magnificent and we can imagine The Pacha led a lavish lifestyle there.

The museum and the shop are loaded with history, extremely well renovated and pleasant. Despite the large number of tourists, we were able to wander around pretty gardens and museum rooms and take lovely photos.

Magnificent place! Absolutely must do! Entrance 100dh adult foreign rate, 60dh for 18/24 years old foreigners. Even if the exhibitions don't interest you, go there at least for the splendid architecture. There are so many things to see, that you don't know where to look anymore.

Lieu magnifique !

It's the most beautiful museum in Marrakech whether it's the exhibitions but more simply the rooms and the patio to discover. Richly decorated and magnificently maintained. And the place isn't too filled compared to other sites in the city. A must!

Dar el Bacha is open at 10 o'clock in the morning. We were there earlier, so we had to wait a bit. If you want to drink coffee in the famous café, you have to register to be sure to find a place there. We were lucky, not too many tourists and plenty of space for photographing
