Synagogue Salat Al Azama

Places to visit · Marrakech

About this place

The Synagogue Salat Al Azama stands in the old mellah of Marrakech, the historic Jewish quarter where the soul of a centuries-old community still resonates. Behind its discreet façade, this place of worship preserves the traditional architecture of Moroccan synagogues, with its vaulted spaces and ornamental details that tell of centuries of cultural coexistence. The atmosphere is imbued with contemplation and memory, an invitation to discover a little-known aspect of Marrakech's identity.

The visit offers an understanding of the history of the Jewish presence in Morocco and its role in the social and economic fabric of the imperial city. The site appeals to those curious about history, lovers of religious heritage and all who wish to appreciate Marrakech in its diversity. A complementary stop in discovering the mellah, between its narrow alleyways and its Jewish cemetery, to grasp the richness of a plural Morocco.
